Nathan Harmon Brings a Powerful Message of Hope, Connection and Recovery to Compass Point
September 2026 | Compass Point Treatment Center
Compass Point Treatment Center recently had the incredible opportunity to welcome motivational speaker and mental health advocate Nathan Harmon to our Sturgis community as part of The 437 Project’s 2026 journey across South Dakota.
Nathan spent time with Compass Point clients, staff, families and members of the community, sharing his personal story of addiction, loss, incarceration, recovery and the journey toward finding purpose. His message was honest, powerful and deeply human—and it left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.
For many of us at Compass Point, Nathan’s visit was a reminder of something we see every day in the people we serve: people are more than the hardest moments of their lives.
A Message That Reached Beyond Addiction
Nathan spoke openly about the struggles he has experienced throughout his life and the importance of connection, asking for help and having people willing to stand beside us when life becomes difficult.
His story resonated particularly strongly with our Compass Point community because recovery is about more than simply stopping the use of substances. It is about rebuilding relationships, finding purpose, developing healthy connections and learning that it is okay to ask for support.
Nathan’s message encouraged everyone in the room to look beyond stigma and remember that every person has a story—and every person has value.
His presentation also emphasized the importance of paying attention to the people around us. Sometimes, being there for someone doesn’t require having the perfect words. Sometimes it simply means listening, asking questions, showing up and reminding someone that they don’t have to face difficult times alone.
That message is at the heart of what we strive to do at Compass Point.
We walk alongside people as they find hope, healing and recovery.
The 437 Project: More Than a Run
Nathan’s visit to Compass Point was made possible through The 437 Project, a South Dakota initiative focused on strengthening the connection between physical and mental wellness while raising awareness and support for suicide prevention and mental health.
Founded in 2022, The 437 Project brings together community leaders who take on a 437-mile relay-style journey across South Dakota. Along the way, they connect with communities, share stories, raise awareness and encourage conversations about mental health.
In 2026, thirteen community leaders participated in the 437-mile journey from the western side of South Dakota to Sioux Falls, with the run taking place September 17–20. Nathan Harmon joined this year’s events as a featured speaker, sharing his story and encouraging South Dakotans to talk openly about mental health, connection and the importance of supporting one another.
The project is built around a simple but meaningful idea: we are stronger when we don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.
The 437 Project also supports efforts connected to suicide prevention, mental health awareness and resources for people affected by suicide loss. According to The 437 Project, its fundraising over the past four years had surpassed $1 million before the 2026 campaign, with this year’s effort raising more than $400,000 for the Helpline Center.
Bringing the Message Home
Having Nathan visit Compass Point made the message of The 437 Project especially meaningful for our clients and staff.
Our clients had the opportunity to hear from someone who has experienced significant challenges and found a way forward. They were reminded that recovery and healing don’t happen overnight—and that asking for help is not a weakness.
For our staff, it was also a powerful reminder of why the work we do matters.
Every day, our team has the opportunity to be someone’s support system, to listen without judgment, to encourage another step forward and to help someone believe that a different future is possible.
Thank You, Nathan and The 437 Project
Compass Point would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Nathan Harmon and The 437 Project for bringing this important conversation to our community.
Thank you to Nathan for being vulnerable enough to share his story, for speaking honestly about the difficult chapters of his life and for reminding us that our experiences can become part of something meaningful.
And thank you to The 437 Project for continuing to bring communities together around conversations that matter.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who joined us—our clients, staff, families, community members and supporters.
Your presence matters. Your story matters. And your willingness to support someone else may matter more than you ever realize.
At Compass Point, we believe there is always room for hope, healing and recovery.
And sometimes, it starts with simply knowing that you don’t have to walk the road alone.
